Salamanca offers the visitors a lot of interesting places to visit: the cathedral , the roman bridge, Unamuno´s house...Here in the picture we see the main square. In 2002 Salamanca was the European capital of culture, just at the same time as the belgium city of Bruges.

One of the most important things there is the university. My home university, the Pontific University of Salamanca, is very dynamic, with new proposals and young teachers.
But the main engine that makes Salamanca different from other Spanish cities are the students. Around 30000 students are living there, and the athmosphere wouldn't be the same without them. Now that we are almost finishing 2007 I want you to know a very special event which is celebrated the week before Christmas: “La nochevieja universitaria”, which is a kind of New Year's Eve for students.
It takes place in the main square of Salamanca , and every year thousands of people go there to celebrate “the new year”. It is organised by the main pubs and restaurants of the city, also supported by the council.
In Spain is typical eating 12 grapes some seconds before the entry of the new year, so in the “nochevieja universitaria” the students bring not only their grapes, but also Champaign , streamers, Santa Claus hats….is a real party which is becoming more and more successful each year.
Salamanca is the city where I've lived since I was a baby. Here you´ll know more about it.
